Is Time to Abolish Columbus Day and Name It Right. Indigenous People Day

Enough with #thanksgiving tradition that celebrates genocide and white supremacy. #indigenouslivesmatter

They took him in, and in their rich economy and culture they gave gifts and offered this man and his crew food and shelter. Their economy was a culture of reciprocity. Something the white settlers here in America and all around the world, when met with indigenous wisdom refused to reciprocate.

In the white cultures — focused on praising thought and individualism over collectivism and spirituality, there has always being limited beliefs at the core of their understanding of the world, where only few linear action were possible: to take, to appropriate and to conquer.

    And so they did.

“On August 3, 1492, Columbus set sail from Palos, Spain, with three small ships, the Santa Maria, the Pinta and the Nina. On October 12, the expedition reached land, probably Watling Island in the Bahamas. Later that month, Columbus sighted Cuba, which he thought was mainland China, and in December the expedition landed on Hispaniola, which Columbus thought might be Japan. He established a small colony there with 39 of his men. The explorer returned to Spain with gold, spices, and “Indian” captives in March 1493 and was received with the highest honors by the Spanish court. He was the first European to explore the Americas since the Vikings set up colonies in Greenland and Newfoundland in the 10th century.” source: History

Taking without reciprocating to the Earth and to Indigenous and Black communities around the world is terrorism. From people, tribes, cultures, ancient wisdoms as a glorified act of theft and genocide has being celebrate for the past 500 years and call it “Thanksgiving”, “4th july”, “Canada day” “columbus day”. These “holidays”, traditions and practices are rooted into white supremacy, anti blackness and non indigenous as result of colonization. It’s time for change and it starts with institutions, policies and our government.

“Academicians, politicians, all the people that are supposed to be guiding this country say you’ve got to be neutral. As soon as I started looking at that word neutral and what it meant, it became very obvious to me there can be no such thing as neutrality. It’s a code word for the existing system…. Neutrality is just following the crowd. Neutrality is just being what the system asks us to be. Neutrality, in other words, was an immoral act.”

    – Myles Horton, co-founder of the Highlander Folk School, an incubator for the formation of the U.S. civil rights movement

This became a glorified culture of supremacy, of greatness, and has infected the souls of many. Especially those who lack access to proper education. Racism, capitalism and white supremacy are human conditioned and programed diseases. These are the results of an unjust and unequal systems that benefits a specific race, gender, social, demographic or higher economic status while the rest are left to fend for themselves. These systems are deadly and unsustainable for all of us and this planet. We all know it by now thanks to a world pandemic and climate change impacts; we are experiencing in our countries. We have 3 months until 2021. Let’s not go through next year without a plan and better understanding of how to change internally and our external environments. WE are in this together.

Remember : Not teaching students about the historic injustices of indigenous people face as a result of colonialism is a conscientious erasure of history that benefits the government. Therefore, intergenerational trauma healing and decolonizing our minds is how we can take our power back and show others how to do the same. _AO

For all the educators out there, who care and want to teach the right history to children, even if your school organization and their policies do not let you. It doesn’t matter. Tell the truth above all, you know better by now. Their system is racists and is meant to keep those who are oppressing the most vulnerable in power. It is your duty as a teacher and parents to guide the future generation and empower them with the truth. As citizen of this planet and environmentalist women of color. I will be teaching this to my children and will be covering more of this on my YouTube channel and podcast along other BIPOC leaders and activist for the youth generation. Thank you for your support, your comments, sharing our work and subscribe to our monthly newsletter so my team and I can continue to provide more educational content and help others stay inspire, creative, sustainable and spiritually conscious as much as we can.

For now, here is a cool way to start, by using geography as your beacon. 😉 https://native-land.ca/ Use this link to find native, indigenous territories that were there before, during colonization (invasion) and what they are called today in this colonized era that now we are (I hope) trying to dismantle and break free from. This link was giving to us during my climate reality project training by Indigenous queens and kings who also taught us valuable lessons. I hope this can give you a sense of where we have come from and what topics to study from real history (fact check and keep the books that lie and add plus share the real story). Let’s be the type of humans of the world we want our nature spirit to continue to live on.

The linear understanding is sterile in its root and isn’t natural to our existence on this planet. Ancient wisdom was stolen, erased and rewritten to serve a prefered group or race. But nature, our own included are not forgotten. I mean, we are in the middle of a world pandemic trying not only to survive, but also going through an awakening, to the reality that we all have been conditioned to believe is just and is the right way. But by now, you know is not true. So, what you do when you know the truth?

    As Martin Luther King, Jr.said:

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

Our souls cannot forget. I know I cannot. The day my father told me where his family came from and my mother read me the Tainos story when I was 7 years old. How they were genocide, women were raped and children were murder or trade for slavery. That’s when I understood, that I had a choice and my parents were giving me that with education. I’m thankful for my parents insistence into learn real history and to always question the status quo. Because real stories do exist and are not all written in books. It’s crazy that it took a world pandemic and a movement to realize that we were all lie to in school. Now is our job, to make sure that the younger generations do not learn this 500 years bs and are giving the right tools to learn the real history.

It must be re-written, especially now.

As you read this you know deep down, within you something is awaking. Let it rise. This is an universal intelligence awakening. In our blood, our ancestors memories cannot be erased. Don’t ever forget who we are and where we came from. And who’s real rights for these lands are. (the one you are on right now while you read this).

By collectively and in unity as human citizens, of this planet that’s our strength. Those who are opposing, are the supporters of a system that benefits them and they are using their 500 years of oppression and colonized language to gaslight those who are awake and ready to lead the way for truth, justice, sustainability and spiritually.

Don’t let them, they need you uneducated and not learning the real truth. Those who are in lockdown, instead of using your energy and time to hate and leave nasty comments on people who are speaking the truth and using their voice instead of remaining silent. Or worse gaslighting and use of violence to prove “right”. (a.k.a: colonized and white supremacy core traits) Please educate yourself, is embarrassing your behavior and your ignorance is killing people too.

We just added books I’ve read when I was younger about the Tainos, books you should read for you and for children and other Indigenous authors stories. Educate yourself, learn to listen to understand and don’t waste your time on trying to defend a system that literally does not care about you or your rights. Remember, those who you are opposing and gaslighting right now, are fighting for your human rights too.

Much controversy remains in the school system over Columbus’s legacy and which holiday should be celebrated. Children in schools have been taught about Christopher Columbus as a hero, but the book Rethinking Columbus: The Next 500 Years, presents an argument that children should also be taught about the truth of what Christopher Columbus started and what affect his actions had upon the native people of the Americas.[30] Rethinking Columbus offers counter narratives to the Eurocentric view of American history that is typically taught in American schools.[30] Furthermore, books like Rethinking Columbus allow students to interpret the history of the Americas in their own way after having multiple perspectives to reflect upon.

There are more out there. Do your own research. Please, share in the comments if you have more books, articles, Indigenous authors we can add here.

These are just some I’ll be reading and some I’ve read already thought you could read in your journey of decolonizing your mind daily while surfing … I mean surviving ( my soul misses the ocean, what do you miss the most during these times?) through a world pandemic.

This is some brain food to keep things in perspective plus keep ourselves awake. Honestly, the truth is painful to digest and can’t imagine living through it. Honoring my ancestors today, because they sacrifice so much, so we can now enjoy the rights that they fought so hard for us to have now. Especially, women.

Just keep in mind that knowing the truth, is liberation. Reading and education are their own form of revolution. Sharing what you learned through books, listing to someone’s life experience and understanding their struggles. Helping in any way, shape or form; reciprocity are act of kindness that can help your planet and liberate those who are being silence and oppressed. Especially those who do not believe they are slaves to the old system therefore they betray their own people for the sake of “neutrality”. Not knowing they just condemn their own people, by not using their power and their voice. By remaining silent and supporting the oppressors is how we all lose. By not changing and adapting, resisting to “normal” when that wasn’t normal.

Liberation comes with sacrifices, resilience and massive dedication to find the truth while living through adversity.

Movements create changes. Earth’s history and nature teaches us this everyday. Without friction there is no growth. So always remember that Books are there to learn about the past, stories are written to enhance imagination in order to keep moving forward. Taking care of our bodies, minds and spirits is vital for humanity survival (mental health is everyday, not just one day of recognition) and keeping constant learning mindset. It can and will set you free. Stay determined, be kind and keep your focus. Love is the new money.

Happy reading and learning! if this is the first time you’ve heard about this and you thought that “thanksgiving’ is really this fairy tale story about celebrating with lots of food and giving thanks for all the things you already have.

First, I hope you are doing that everyday and not just for some white washing and colonial holiday. I hope that you also know, this day also represents genocide, murder, slavery, rape, murder of innocent people that didn’t know what was coming by saving this asswipe and letting him in, helping him and his 39 crew of men… And look where that act of kindness got the Tainos and all Indigenous People for the next 500 years and still going unless we all do something about it. #Indigenouslivesmatter

We need to listen to a wider range of voices. We need to hear from those whose lands and rights were taken away by those who “discovered” them. Their stories, too often suppressed, tells very clearly their 500 years of courageous struggle and the life wisdom the native ancestors have left behind for all of us to learn, remember and honor their sacrifice. Understanding what really happened to them in 1492 is key to understanding why people suffer the same injustices today.

Be kind to your planet, to you and others. Leave me in the comments which one is your favorite book so far and if you have more to recommend. We highly appreciate it ❤

    Thank you for your support!

Did You Know That Manufacturers, and Some Companies, in the United States Must Submit a Toxic Release Inventory Report to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Each Year on July 1st?

4 months ago #GiveBack, Anti-Racism Matters, BioScience, Chemistry, Money, Science & Environment, Social Justice, Sustainability Matters, Yeppin

This Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) report is vital because it can support and inform the decision-makers of companies, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, as well as the public each year.

In the journey of becoming Anti racist, (yes, as a latinx and mix-indigenous/Dominicana, I have lots of decolonization, dismantling of white supremacy, and bias to acknowledge, heal, and to overall change behaviours), decolonizing the mind is not easy work. It’s very deep and personal. And at the same time, fighting for climate change as an environmentalist, writer, founder, single mom and women of color, is on another level.

But it is necessary and painful work that I want to do and encourage you to do the same. We all have inner healing, and dismantle colonized mindset, oppressed, gentrified and discriminated traumas to let go and embrace new information and change. I know change is not easy, we are creatures that love comfort and safety-net. However, real life is not meant to be easy.

We all must work and learn to find joy through the chaos. _AO

Earth was not created and all its organisms living on it, without going through painful and destructive experiences. There was a lot that our planet endured and our ancestors had to go through and adapt to a fast changing environment to get to where we are now. It really is up to us, to do something about what was NOT done well in the past. We have to fix it, all of us. We must research, find the truth and educate ourselves from what we all know by now, was a lie. History doesn’t repeat itself, but intergenerational trauma induce and a cycle system built to benefit some and zero for the other does.

Honestly, if 10 years ago, someone would have asked me if this was ever a possibility to do all of this… I probably would have said “Heck, no way”!

This is where we are in a worldwide pandemic:

    • We are on the rise of coronavirus again, and those who are more affected are trying to promote already their idea of a vaccine (which estimated time for a proper vaccine to developed and certified tested, has to be until the end of the year of 2021), that most probably is just test-runs; and we the healthy (working outside and being exposed to the virus or the survivors of the virus) are the subjects . With no scientific or result evidence that they work, but yet, political leaders are using it as a beacon of”fake-hope” to keep the public calm.
    • Children and teachers risking their lives for the sake of “education”, parents working are either from home, or out with the public where they are exposed to the Coronavirus because their jobs allow them to feed their families and keep the mental-slave economy going .
    • Some countries and cities are still on lockdown since 9 months ago. The world, is on fire while most of us are getting richer and others are trying to survive injustices by police brutality, racism, misogyny, patriarchy, white supremacist, homo/transphobia, a pandemic, climate change and mental health issues.
    • Traditional media and those who are in power, are making it very clear and not so subtle anymore, for us to STOP questioning their actions, the status quo, the system that keeps them in power and their so called “laws and policies”; which we all know needs to be re-written and changed. As well, it is not really advertised or spoken of, the long term effects this vaccine can create on our bodies since this virus has no cure as of yet. And the long term effects after getting the virus and surviving is another job on top of everything else going on in the world. Listen to the stories of those who survived. Data and numbers cases of survivors who are still having long term symptoms, and probably prolonged health issues, which were not a problem before they got covid-19.
    • Seniors, Children, Indigenous, Women, Parents, Single parents, Blacks, LGBTQ+, Transwomen and all people of color are suffering and dying faster than our fellow white counterparts during this pandemic. Our white peers are enjoying the privilege that their ancestors left behind (white supremacy, misogyny, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, patriarchy, capitalist/colonial mindset, Zero sum game bs, rapist, child molesters, police brutality, discrimination, segregation, oppression… I can keep going but do your research “on whiteness” ) for all the rest of us to deal. Now, 400 years later, we are demanding and fighting for justice, for our human rights and building equitable and sustainable systems that enhance our nations and our planet. With or without white people help. It will be amazing that our white peers become our allies. Because you do have the advantage of being born with the prefered skin color for now and use it for good; which is what we have been asking for decades. It feels good to benefit and profit from those who are suffering right now isn’t? Or educate yourself about systemic racism and white supremacy instead of experiencing it everyday? How was your vacation in the middle of a world pandemic? How were you treated in the hospital this year? Yep, check your privilege. Because Enough is enough! WE ARE TIRED! It’s exhausting trying to survive in a world designed Anti-black. Which is ridiculous. We are the by-product of multicultural and mixed races for many generations now.
    • More jobs, the ability to rent a place in a safe neighbourhood, the right to get proper health care, financial assistance and mental health support are becoming less accessible than it was before for people whose skins are different than white. Those who denied this statement, please educate yourself, people are dying and we don’t have the time or the mental strength anymore to applicate to your wounded ego or feelings.
    • There are those who are not able to find jobs or work right now; at the same time trying to survive themselves and provide for their loved ones with any means or ways they can. How are you surviving these days?

Honestly, I say and write thank you every single day, because sometimes I know it is a privilege to meditate or yoga, or take a walk for a few minutes. Without feeling guilty of not being a slave working for an economy and system that’s designed to keep us in control and letting them get away with horrible things done to us, the consumers and Earth, our home.

For now, let’s focus on those who need to be held accountable and how to start taking action. Tracking their actions and adding tax accordingly. It’s the fastest and most effective way to get to the core of most problems on this planet right now and making sure our human rights and health are not affected by their corrupted actions.

We are paying and working, supporting companies and industries that are sick, toxic and twisted controlled by wealthy individuals. They also make sure they cover their tracks by paying enough to traditional media and politicians in order to keep the masses (us) distracted (using our psychological and intergenerational trauma to keep us oppressed and controlled. That’s why it is important to decolonize ourselves. Our minds can be easily manipulated if we don’t work on our mental strength too. ) from political bs, entertainment bs, news (keep us divided by lying and using racist and white supremacy tactics) and media power (them). Because the government and policy makers already knew, and always have known how bad climate change will be for all of us. Especially the most vulnerable and communities of people of color. They have the best scientists and research people on payroll that we pay them from our own taxes. They know the policies and regulations are mandatory for a reason. But humanity got distracted for the past 10–20 years.

Here we are. World pandemic, fighting for human rights again! and now, dealing with climate change impacts all in the same year.

2020 is not the problem, is what was already designed to benefit those who profit over inequality, and through the oppression of the most vulnerable communities. We see it through how children’s rights are being violated by ICE immigration and concentration camps. Humans rights violated in China, with genocide camps having muslims and other people locked up. The violations of Women’s rights in the ICE facilities recently reported through a whistleblowers (Thank god that you exist, I know is bad what you do because you get the most heat for speaking up and we are so grateful for your bravery. The universe always rewards the most stubborn souls. Especially those who are meant to show the light and truth. Integrity, compassion and honesty are vital these days. Don’t give up).

Money can buy mostly everything. But I’m telling you there are three things it CAN’T: Integrity, our mindset and hope. These grow, change over time and for the right reasons, giving the right circumstances and environment. Just like a diamond.

However, let’s focus on these corporations and large companies’ gadgets and how they need to report to the population their practises and their initiatives on lowering their environmental and health impact. It’s our basic human rights since we are the citizens paying to live in these countries that are supposed to keep us safe. Let’s start with:

The TRI Report method can ensure for all of us citizens of the country we reside in, that manufactures and industrial systems, are held accountable in the goal to reduce CO2 emissions by 1.5 degrees celsius for the next 10 years. We all know by now, due to Covid-19 and a worldwide pandemic, that certain areas and locations are more vulnerable and exposed to chemical hazards than others. That climate change impact hasn’t stopped because of the Coronavirus. We can clearly see it through many disasters and now, the fires in California.

Meanwhile, some manufacturers and facilities operations are still working during these times too. Due to the non-stop work of these facilities, creating a TRI report for the EPA is now more important than ever; to have to produce a TRI report will ensure that these companies and manufacturers take accountability for their actions. It will keep them aligned with the world goals: to reduce CO2 emissions, plus better management of their release of toxic waste into the land, water, and air.

Image credit: EPA (United States Environment and Protection agency)

    Why is TRI important?

TRI tracks the management of certain toxic chemicals that may pose a threat to human health and the environment. This report is very important because it must contain these manufactures and facilities year’s- worth of releases to air (fumes, smoke, dust), water, and in the form of hazardous chemical waste. These companies can maintain their credibility and make sure that their actions align with greener standards. They can also create a leadership-type role, which other companies can view as an example for their future environmental protection policies within their organizations. The positive movement by providing this TRI report can create better acquisition opportunities and better advancement for the organization as well as their internal affairs.

Now, there are three criterias that a facility must meet in the report:

    1. Specific industry sector e.g., manufacturing, mining, electric power generation). Note that federal facilities must report regardless of industry sector if they meet the other two criteria.
    2. Employs 10 or more full-time equivalent employees
    3. Manufactures, processes, or otherwise uses a TRI-listed chemical in quantities above threshold levels in a given year.

    Sources: EPA.

The TRI program has expanded significantly since its inception in 1987. The APE agency has issued rules to roughly double the number of chemicals included in the TRI to approximately 767 individually listed chemicals and 33 chemical categories. This includes the PFAS chemicals added by the National Defense Authorization Act in December 2019. As a result, the types of chemicals covered by the TRI list of reportable toxic chemicals can vary from year to year.

In general, the Toxic Release Inventory requirements are to report chemicals covered by the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) Program; those that cause one or more of the following:

    • Cancer or other chronic human health effects
    • Significant adverse acute human health effects
    • Significant adverse environmental effects

    image:EPA

Facilities that meet all of these criteria must:

    • Submit a TRI Form R for each TRI-listed chemical it manufactures, processes, or otherwise uses in quantities above the reporting threshold. (Note: Facilities may be eligible to submit the shorter Form A if they meet certain criteria. See the TRI Reporting Forms and Instructions for details.)
    • Submit each TRI form to both EPA and the state in which the facility is located (or to the appropriate tribe, if located in Indian country).
    • Submit each reporting form using TRI-MEweb, EPA’s online TRI reporting application.

If a facility does not exceed an activity threshold for a listed toxic chemical, or is not in a covered NAICS code, or does not have 10 or more full-time employee equivalents, it is not required to report under EPCRA Section 313. However, such facilities may still want to keep records of the amounts of listed toxic chemicals they manufacture, process, or otherwise use, in order to defend against any claim that they failed to report.

The parent regulation of TRI and the general goal of this parent regulation is in order to help with TRI reporting rules. In 1986, Congress passed the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) to support and promote emergency planning and to provide the public with information about releases of toxic chemicals in their community. Section 313 of EPCRA established the Toxics Release Inventory. (source: EPA)

TRI is for industries primarily including manufacturing, metal and coal mining, electric utilities, and commercial hazardous waste treatment. Most recently, the APE Agency has reduced the reporting thresholds for certain persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic (PBT) chemicals in order to be able to provide additional information to the public on these chemicals. (Source: Office of Disease Prevention and Health promotion) For example, Mobile sources emissions, which account for approximately 50% of all air toxics, as well as smaller sources such as gas stations and dry cleaners are not included in TRI.

As mentioned in the Climate Reality Training, “rebuilding with green jobs”, we must put people first, produce green jobs, create a zero carbon society, equity building, and take climate action. Express the need of policy and educational awareness by:

    • Putting people first.
    • Ceasing bail outs for fossil fuels.
    • Fostering a just transition to zero emissions.
    • Focusing on creating careers and economic opportunities in areas with most need.
    • Social, Human Rights, and environmental justice
    • Climate change solutions and greener spaces
    • Embrace companies and organizations that provide services in sustainability and they create equitable, clean and sustainable practices within their organization and brands that inspire their consumers and their communities to thrive and too.

In other words, TRI properly reporting and including EPA programs can make sure these facilities and companies are held accountable while we are all in the process of creating a greener and healthier sustainable planet. All of this on top of surviving a world pandemic, climate change, human rights and social justice movement.

In one of the training, we had to read an article and express our solutions for climate action. I loved the article:

9 REASONS TO HAVE CLIMATE HOPE IN 2020

For this exercise, I added a 10th reason to have hope for the climate, and something I’ll be potentially presenting in order to create more awareness and hold big polluters accountable for their actions each year here in Montreal, and in the rest of Canada.

I don’t live in the US, but their EPA program and their TRI mandatory report is something I believe is important to enforce and create more awareness. The need to educate more the YOUTH about these programs, climate change, anti-racism, anti-white supremacy, living more sustainability and give them the tools to also educate their peers and families is vital. I’ll definitely be contributing through writing, art and sharing more educational content about climate change and social justice through our channels and podcast episodes, on why Montreal, Quebec, or Canada doesn’t require this report to be mandatory, yet in the USA is vital for obvious reasons of course…

Either way, we will be going into more depth about climate change solution, sharing the story of other companies doing the work, sustainability, why is important to build equitable sustainable and cleaner energy systems, Greener cities, build and amplifying Black and BIPOC Wealth in all systems (education, media, health facilities, agriculture, government, justice system, etc) . It is necessary to keep in check or create programs that track big corporations and manufactures that need to be held accountable for their toxic waste release into land, water and our air in areas of minority and most vulnerable communities around the world.

We want change, and it starts from those who think they have it. The “power to the people” is still very valid and freedom of speech was created in order to defy those in power who we know and clearly can see are not good for our nations and our planet. Our mixed races are beautiful magic and it is time for all of us to embrace our diversity, uniqueness and unconscious inner strength as we unite forces to do what’s right for our planet and ourself.

    Explosion Beirut 2020

Ways You Can Help Beirut Victims

I’m educating myself about recent events thats happening in the world right now; while still looking for a place to live, working from home, looking for clients or doing these (for now) and homeschool my girls. I can only imagine the stress, despair, isolation, confusion and loss of connection from what WE are all going through during these times.

It’s through failing a lot, going through really painful and emotional situations that it seems we all (or some) need to get through in order to be able to survive this pandemic and awakening period. Some of us have been silent; we’ve been conditioned to stay quiet and feel ashamed for developing a mental illness during lockdown. On top of trying to survive by not getting COVID-19, we are learning how screwed up this system we live in truly is. We are all waking up and realizing how a large portion of individuals benefit a lot from inequality, mental slavery, and keeping minorities and those who are voiceless oppressed.

A massive explosion rocked the Lebanese capital of Beirut on Tuesday at 6:07 p.m. local time leaving at least 135 dead and thousands injured. The explosion took place near Beirut’s port and central district, close to many highly-populated areas and tourist sites. Beirut’s governor, Marwan Aboud, told Jordan’s state-owned channel Al Mamlaka that at least 300,000 people were “unable to sleep in their homes,” adding that “half of Beirut’s population have homes that are unlivable for the foreseeable future — for the next two weeks.”

It’s really sad to know that this could’ve been prevented, but it wasn’t. Either it was due to lack of proper safety & environmental assessments, or other reasons that are still very early to tell. The blast has been linked as Prime Minister Hassan Diab said that about 2,750 metric tons of ammonium nitrate, a highly explosive material, had been stored at the port for the past six years “without preventive measures.” That’s a large supply of confiscated and potentially insecure explosive material, stored in a warehouse at the city’s port, close to populated areas.

The horrific videos of the blast were devastating and heartbreaking. I was dealing with serious depression that day and wasn’t feeling myself. As a spiritual Mom, creative, and currently without a permanent address yet, I could only imagine how hard and traumatic this situation must be for the Lebanese community. I’m not Lebanese, and lord knows, I’m trying to survive these times and also run a business; however, I felt the need to do something with what I’ve already been working on with my team, our community and clients.

My team and I decided to create this fundraiser in order to help spread the word, raise money for these organizations, and amplified the voices of these non-profit organizations that are helping those in need right now in Beirut, Lebanon. It took some time and research, and we are still looking more into it. If you know of those who have other organizations (who are helping and are providing food, shelter and water in Beirut), Please send us an email or reach us here .

Funds will be distributed to and why we choose these:

Disaster Relief for Beirut Explosion and Providing Shelter For People Affected in collaboration with Baytna Baytak by Impact Lebanon -Is a non-profit organization, is a social incubator for driven Lebanese around the world. They aim to enable the Lebanese community to mobilize effectively; share knowledge, resources and expertise and make activism accessible, impactful and sustainable.

The Lebanese Red Cross– are the main providers of ambulance services in Lebanon. They have 300 emergency medical technicians and 300+ ambulances respond to more than 140,000 emergencies and patients per year. Now, imagine their efforts double in one day during these times and after the Beirut explosion.

Dafa Campaign fundraiser run by Nairy Anastasia Mezian — Dafa Campaign is a non-profit NGO (organization) in Lebanon that supplies the community with essential food (they also have been growing their own crops for healthy fruits and vegetables) and resources. These funds will go to essential needs: Water, Food (rice, grains, flour, bread, milk, canned food, prepared meals, etc), Home essentials (paper towels, diapers, soap, etc), Daily needs (Face masks, gloves, medicine, first aid).

Save the Children Lebanese Relief Fund -Thousands of vulnerable children and families displaced and desperate for medical care. With COVID-19 already pushing hospitals to the breaking point, children are at risk of injury, malnutrition and worse. Which is why we have decided to contribute our first 10,000 to this organization.

Our creative and educational content, newsletters, podcasts (coming soon) and weekly blogs will be created with the purpose to encourage others to help each other while also using creativity. Kindness is our superpower. We need to be willing to do the work and focus on ourselves, while also caring for others. It takes a lot of work and personal sacrifice to dismantle what we’ve been taught and become better humans; while also finding our purpose in this life. It’s hard work, but it can be done together. Starting with this:

Sunday poetry on our YouTube Channels are arts, poems, quotes, design, paintings are created from our followers and community. In order to share creative inspiration before and during COVID-19; for those who are suffering from mental illnesses, financial stress, hunger, being a victim of systemic racism, being an activist for social justice, children being abused at home, writers, creatives, and educators trying to stay alive. We are all together and we contribute for causes we care about. Together, we are creating ways to use creativity for kindness and help others do the same.

We will update you as soon as we can on the exact amounts that will be donated to each of these organizations. We will also monitor the situation and hope to rely on your generosity and kindness to help those in need and affected by the explosion in Beirut.

    Thank you for your support!

P.s: ways to donate to Lebanon without money arab.org EVERY CLICK IS A DONATION (being doing this everyday before working) and Watch to donate “To Beirut” (Lebanon) play the video all the way through. We all can do our part. Let’s care more and do our best.

9 Things to Do to Keep a Positive and Happy Mindset During Quarantine

8 months ago #GiveBack, Health & Wellness, Life Wisdom, WritersYep, WritersYepper's Journeys

Change your mindset and let go of the old…back to normal doesn’t exist anymore. Change is unavoidable.

    Originally published Medium.

This is a little reminder that I think is best to keep in mind. Especially when the whole world and people you admire are constantly reminding you that you are not doing enough. I needed to write this today, because I believe those big world leaders and motivational speakers who were the beacon of light before this quarantine happened, are trying to keep the same mindset as before. I’m here to tell you that their way of living, coping with adversity, or whatever they are doing to survive, was already built way before all of this. Their financial success is the byproduct of that. What they used to do to keep that stream of income was working, but at the expense of a lot of people suffering from mental health issues trying to meet or match these well-known leaders of “success”. I bet while you read this sentence, you can picture them in your head.

They are not that many, but they have absolutely left their mark. I’m not saying don’t keep following them and listening to what they have to say. Their life lessons are guidance for us to keep moving forward. However, be selective of what you hear and learn from them. The tactics they used before were toxic at the same time. You have to learn to recognize when it’s good to consume their content, products, or services, and when it’s not. For example, I won’t mention names, but there is a writer I’ve admired and followed for many years now. His writing is amazing. His style and the way he reaches his audience is making him big money right now. At least I hope he does. However, he is using the same habits and styles that are not working anymore for some of us trying to survive in quarantine. Surviving a worldwide pandemic and also making sure you are sane, safe and financially stable; these are different spectrums that should be treated with care and understanding.

Not everyone has a marketing team that can work day and night, so that their main leader can post and emphasize “tips” like “Waking up at 5am for 30 days, will change your life!” Or “you won’t be successful if you don’t do this..”, “unproductive behaviours and procrastination are traumas we must let go of”… I mean for some, this is great motivation and inspiration — those living their best life, with no financial stress. That’s okay, you did the work before this pandemic happened. Good for you! But if you are reposting and curating the same content as before, you are creating a mental health problem for those who look up to you and are trying to literally survive right now.

Remember, words have power and we as writers, bloggers, media and creatives should take responsibility for our actions. Also, if you see the people you admire, constantly on social media and posting, they have teams and they have built a routine and ways to make money while they are asleep, before all of this happened. If you didn’t do that, please! Do not feel like you are a failure or not enough, and that you can’t start building your career now. You can, but you have to put in the hours, the sweat, the tears, the sleepless nights (not recommended for people who suffer from insomnia or have family history of Alzheimer’s and dementia. You need your 7–8 hours sleep, don’t waste it.) and just work smart, do one thing at time. They have completed each step of the “success ladder” which is a process that you can’t lie about or fake. Are you ready?

So for all writers and creatives out there:

Your work this month is to understand the difference between feeling truly alive and being constantly in danger _AO

I’ve challenged myself to write at least two articles per week. There have been drastic changes here in my city. Basically, they are beginning to re-open businesses when the Coronavirus is still in full force and people haven’t been doing what they are supposed to be doing… The increase in positive cases is up by 2000 instead of 1000 per day. Here are the stats for Quebec.

Results and data don’t lie. This is a population that thinks they are above the virus, selfish lab rats from a province in Canada with the highest taxes. They at the moment, are not paying for our necessities and rent, or food. They are the definition of a bystander and leaching system. They know and are fully aware that the population, IF they really pay attention, don’t need them in the end. Taxes can actually go where they are supposed to… There is a silent corruption, segregation and alienation that has been very well known for years in this province. Before all this pandemic started, Montreal taxes were spent on fixing streets, communities, advancements, resources, commercial, research, schools, wages for teachers, staff and etc. However, essential workers were taken for granted. Now, the whole population has acknowledged that and they are demanding more. Thanks to Trudeau (a Canadian — not Quebec initiative) who is raising all wages for essential workers this month. They deserve the utmost respect ✊🏽 This city does not value them at this moment. It’s very clear and straightforward that the government is giving people the option to choose whether to live or die.

The people in charge of this province and the poor souls who are suffering because of their poor leadership skills, will get their karma, so will the radio stations and news broadcasts. They think that this is going to be forgotten. I will never forget and I’ll document so we don’t forget. They are thinking of opening schools in the next two weeks and asking parents, who cares. Because yes, there are parents here who are very vocal, “I can’t wait until my kids go back to school already!” Even though they know very well the stats and that the situation here is out of control.

No judgment, but that’s selfish if you ask me. Kids should not be some experiment to test, especially when the outcome is death. Parents like these, don’t really have a need for their kids to be in school. There are essential workers with kids who are absolutely not okay with this… however they don’t have the luxury of having that choice. They have been leaving their kids with special daycare services which are being offered by daycares here. I can just imagine those kids dealing with strict distance regulations, waiting for their parents… now, they have to share the space with more kids next week…

This is a disaster for the mental health practitioners, because this absolutely means more people infected and more hospitalizations, putting teachers, daycares, at risk… And parents who have been working from home this whole time and have found stability with their routines, their kids, and work. So these are the kinds of things that have been happening around here and why writing was put on pause last week. Just being real. And I finished writing this on Mother’s day while waiting for my girls to come home from their dad.

Either way, here I am, to give you some positivity and happy tips that have been working so far with me and my girls. I hope I can help, please stay home if you are living in my area; this virus has not been slowing down. If you see the numbers of infections and deaths increase, please for your sake and others’… Stay home! Wash your hands (for at least 20 seconds), keep your distance, and only go out if you need to and WEAR A MASK (IF YOU HAVE KIDS, THEM TOO). We need to buy more time. Let’s flatten this curve and let’s do this together. Unity it’s our only solution. Community and collaboration can save lives right now. Other cities and countries are celebrating that they have lowered their number of cases, and they can start visiting their families first, then opening businesses and schools… not the other way around.

Alright, enough of the negative. Let’s embrace the suck and dive into positivity and happiness! So how do you find these things while you are in quarantine at home? If you’ve been quarantining for the last two months and doing what you’re supposed to, you’re a superhero! You got this, and you will come out stronger because of your kindness, compassion, and patience. Now, here are some tips to endure another month.

    1. Wake up with an intention and gratitude.
    2. Plan the night before > Routines/schedule/list
    3. Play, self-care, and use your imagination.
    4. Creativity, exercise, meditation, yoga (sleepy yoga) My girls favorite ❤
    5. Writing/reading/music/movies/documentaries
    6. Love every day. Keep in contact with your loved ones.
    7. Help your community/support local businesses.
    8. Do not listen to the news or radio. Read real stats and legit news.
    9. Dance 💃🏻 do something you love after you’ve done your tasks for the day!

I hope this helps. Keep up those positive vibes and that healthy mindset. Plan for your future and if you have kids, their future. Put together a savings plan, start seeing where your money can be invested and where it can be of better use for your community and those in need. Be happy that you get to stay safe at home and spend this precious time with your loved ones and yeah, yourself. Love yourself more, let go of toxic habits and people that are not good for your personal growth. Invest in your wellbeing and your passions.

    Until next time…Stay safe.

Be kind to your planet, to you, and others.

What have you been doing that has helped you stay positive and focused on your goals these past two months? Let me know in the comments 🙂

Take Care of Earth / Cuidar De La Tierra.

We are Blessed In Caring For our Home, Our Planet.

The Earth is a fine place and worth fighting for.

    Ernest Hemingway

    Happy Earth Day!

This blog today was in between homeschooling my girls and whenever they were distracted playing and painting. Trying to reduce the amount of TV/ screen time while I get some writing/editing/clients work done. Since we are social distancing, and I’m a single mom. There is so much one person can do. Especially, when you are in survival mode, trying to keep up with finances, providing necessities and care for the most vulnerable. And, let’s not forget! stay sane through it all. So, those struggling right now. Just keep in mind we are all going through it and just do the best you can alright.

However, today, I’m going the extra mile because my eco/writers/creative communities are celebrating one of my favorite days of the year. And I already celebrated with my girls, now, let’s celebrate together. The way I know how. Educating, sharing goodies and writing about it. This weekend I am planning on going Live on IG. I”ll be talking about creative ways things to do while in quarantine, real talk about mental health and climate change. I’ll post what time and day. Hope to see ya there <3

We should not forget that in human years is the 50th anniversary of our planet. In the Geological term Planet Earth according to us scientist :

“By dating the rocks in Earth’s ever-changing crust, as well as the rocks in Earth’s neighbors, such as the moon and visiting meteorites, scientists have calculated that Earth is 4.54 billion years old, with an error range of 50 million years.” space.com.

On this Earth Day, while we are at home. We should take time to acknowledge, appreciate and embrace our responsibility to this planet, to our home. Now, more than ever we are blessed to be alive and surviving a world pandemic COVID-19.

Coronavirus has rising out-of-our lack of understanding and carelessness of depleting our resources and believing that our actions were not the cause of climate change.

We enjoy our planet’s beautiful abundance that is everywhere. The fullness of the vegetation, animals, oceans, forest, deserts, all natural resources that sustains us and its beauty gives us joy.

Let us appreciate and admire the mountains, the chirping of the birds, the magnificence of the oceans, lakes and rivers. We share this magnificent world with majestic, colorful and lovely animals. Everything speaks to us of love and care – everything is part of us, just as I am and you are part of everything. Advantages of Green, Eco-Design Landscapes plus Traveling Sustainably

1 year ago #GiveBack, Adventure, Science & Environment, ScienceYep, Sustainable Traveling, Travel, TravelYep, Yeppin

Picture above it’s from my first day arriving to Samana, Dominican Republic. This is the moment, in the bus alone where I learned from a very poor and the kindest people the idea and the hope that we can all take action and build a more greener plus sustainable world starting 2020.

First, let’s start by Green building. It is not uncommon now, more than ever that we must take action in order to reduce the effects of climate change. We are in a new decade and a new year 2020. We have a chance to redeem ourselves and start over isn’t it? We are all humans that make mistakes and we are now very aware, that our actions have an immense effect on climate change. We the tenants of this planet, need to be held accountable for every action we take as whole. Enough with the excuses and start building a better future for ourselves and for the future generation. It’s not rocket science, is simple by just changing our consumptions habits, reducing our plastic, less waste, re-use, reduce and recycle. Here are more ways to reduce our ecological footprint.

    reduce carbon footprint
By my favorite teaching sustainability website. https://www.teachstarter.com/
    • Reduce energy use – Turn off all electrical appliances when you are not using them.
    • Change the way you think about transportation – Ride your bike or walk instead of taking the car.
    • Make every drop count – Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth or washing your hands and have quick showers.
    • Recycle – Make sure you put any products that can be recycled in the recycling bin.
    • Reuse – Can you reuse something again or in a different way?
    • Repair – See if any broken items can be fixed before throwing them away and buying a new one.
    • Reduce – Think, do you really need more toys or items that will one day end up as landfill?
    • Litter free lunchboxes – try to have as little plastic bags and wrappers in your lunchbox as possible. (pictures of fruit & containers that can be used again please)
    • Plant more trees – If you can, plant new trees in your garden.

These are some of the habits that as you see can be broken down into step-by-step and list-to-do to start today. Have a friend, family member or community 😉 (comment below or comment on our post) and share your improvements! This way you can hold others accountable as well as you do. Yep, it’s going to takes us time. I’m starting this year with this mindset as well as writing and sharing my truth you in?

    Manhattan Bridge Greener Idea
From my last TravelYep blog post.

If we remain focus on our common goal together and start small and repeat good daily habits towards changing our ways, in order for our world and our health to be better in the next 10 years. I think 7.5 billion people can accomplished a lot together don’t you think?

Today’s blog post was inspired by #TravelYep and some companies that I’ve started to research about sustainable green landscapes. Yep, as you know I’m an writer and an environmentalist at heart. Creative and green entrepreneur it’s my life aside from being a single mama raising two amazing and beautiful toddlers. That’s a story for another time 😉 Anyhow, this community and space came from my soul and heart, because I believe there’s still hope. We just need to be more aware, focus on more education, less clutter, more mindful about our daily lives, focus on our health, consumption habits and some motivation plus inspiration to create a better world never hurt anybody :).

It just going to take time, just like anything we start new. Example, just like the first time you ride a bike right? You fall many times, got a couple of bruises along the way and every time you fell, you got back up and try again. We learn the hard way unfortunately, but that’s what makes us unique. However, let’s use this uniqueness we all possess now for good.

Lately, I’ve been obsessed to see more green in highways, buildings, homes, local businesses and yep pretty much everything now that can be possible sources for reducing Co2 and effects on climate change. Every action counts, even if its small. My team and I believe that by starting small, and keep sharing our story and embracing sustainability through here, our followers, influencers, writers and creative stories. As well, as with our partners plus collaborators. We can have a huge impact on helping others and ourselves to reduce C02. Let’s start by green buildings and eco-design landscapes.

This is huge! As a Dominican environmentalists @angiem_ao and someone who grew up around this area. Seen this 😭brought tears of joy! Also swipe left, 🤗 I’m sure this is a collective joy and a sign of hope for those who live around this river .

The Ozama River is heavily polluted. It is constantly affected by the slums on its shores and the factories that dump their waste into it. It is one of the main causes of pollution on the coastline of Santo Domingo. One of the many reason I’ve decided to be an #enviromentalscientist

It’s also one of the areas most affected right now with COVID-19 😔

So grateful @boyanslat and @theoceancleanup 🌻 for the work you do in keeping our 🌎 oceans clean and making sure that areas of the most marginalized communities living near rivers or the beach have less pollution = cleaner, educate locals which creates more sustainable conscious communities for the future generations. ✊🏾#betheexampleyouwanttosee 🌻

p.s: suggestions Samana is another city where 🐋 go to give birth every year. This area is heavily polluted too last time I was there. It will help to clean up so those mamas and their babies are healthy and less plastic in their stomachs 🙏🏽🐋💚

#simplereminders 🌎 This “has no value “unde #simplereminders 🌎 This “has no value “under capitalism also goes to:

❣️social and environmental Justice, indigenous rights, BLM, Trans, Latinos, LGBTQ+, Muslim, Asians, Jews, Arabic people, people living with disabilities, homeless, people dealing with mental illnesses, children, marginalized communities, parents with children w disabilities, women of color, BIPOC communities living in marginalized places. Essential workers, teachers, people delivering, groceries clerks, people living in apartments in horrible conditions but their lives are considered “non-essential “ by the system therefore cannot afford to move, nurses who work other jobs plus saving life’s in hospitals... any more to add to these list? 🤔

THESE ARE REAL PEOPLE. WITH REAL. STORIES.

#environmentalracism exist because of capitalism and white supremacy. OUR SUFFERING, OPPRESSION AND TRAUMAS DURING A WORLD PANDEMIC ARE NOT A CONSPIRACY. 😒

That’s why we need to work on abolition. Also, #abolishthepolice and #fundthecommunity ✊🏾

People who don’t have jobs and can’t afford housing and mental health support should be able to get these for free. What do you think 💭?

We need to STOP shaming people who are suffering right now instead of helping any way you can.

There are literally people comfortable in their home with everything paid for them. Shaming accounts who are voicing THE TRUTH and commenting “they deserve what they get” 🤬

White privilege also is rooted from capitalism and instead of using your privilege for good. You are being violent and creating more #inequality while most of us are trying to break this mental insanity created by greedy colonizers which most of these descended people are highly benefiting from.

We need to do better people. Because our lives 🌎 depends on it.

And save so you can send it to someone with privilege who says “they deserve it “ or “it is their fault” or the usual I hear everyone say to me when I speak about this. “You’re too much”, “stop caring so much” 🙄 “that’s not your problem. Why do you drain your energy on things that are not your concern anymore?” “You’re not homeless anymore are you?”

Yeah, that’s still a racial trauma I’m still working on healing and working really hard so I don’t end up in the streets again. 🙏🏽grateful for my family, friends and you 🌹 who are helping me so I can continue this work.

However, there are many people who don’t have family or friends to help them. Imagine being homeless through this winter and dealing with #policebrutality everyday.

Yep, let that sink in.

Very soon through the new website 💚🙏🏽 going to show you why it matters to care and help others. 🌻

We still are NOT going to just stay silent because it makes people uncomfortable 😒 Nah, they matter as much as all of us and f$&^ billionaires and toxic patriarchy leaders.

Watch out for those who gaslight, shame and blame yours or other BIPOC traumatic experiences. They are highly privileged, greedy people who benefit a lot from inequality and capitalism. 🤮

Most of us are still processing and healing racial Most of us are still processing and healing racial trauma and the shock of seen white supremacy and racism at work on January 6,2020 in the US.

However, just because is uncomfortable and seen the truth plus the reality that POC are dealing on a daily basis. Now, at night during lockdown “curfew” in Montreal, Quebec 🤦🏽‍♀️
we must speak about important matters. We don’t want to deal with bigger problems down the line.

Just like MLK 🖤✊🏾once said: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."

RP @climatestrikecanada ✊🏾💚
“from @wearenorth99 if we’re ever going to have climate justice, we must acknowledge the racist origins of the proud boys in so called “Canada” and how they continue to contribute to white supremacy across this land.”

This is something we are already experiencing in Quebec, Montreal with our white supremacist, racist and white privileged leaders. Their actions and decisions are really detrimental and silent violence that only people who are in the front line, essential workers, teachers, children, BIPOC communities, Women of color, Parents, Trans, LGBTQ+, homeless people and elderly are suffering the most. I would not be surprised these leaders of this city are very supportive of these groups. Stay conscious and pay attention. 🌻

We must not stay silent #canadians don’t think that what happen in the US cannot happen here. And they’re counting on your silence and complicit so they can continue their toxic behaviours. It has to end and it ends with all of us, not just some of us.
